LV Recess/Lunch Volunteers

Being on the playground, watching out for learners during Lunch and Recess time is one of the most rewarding volunteer opportunities. You can see how our learners interact with each other in an informal, energetic setting.

Additional help is always needed, particularly during the lunch (11:15 - 12:30 p.m.) hour.

REQUIREMENTS TO VOLUNTEER:

1. FINGERPRINTING:
Please make sure you bring the pre-filled Livescan form (specific to Nea)
when you do your fingerprinting. The form has been pre-filled with Nea's information for your convenience.

Livescan is available at local UPS stores. The one on Bay Farm has a special rate of just $24 for school volunteers. Make sure to mention you are being fingerprinted for a school!

UPS - BayFarm: 875 Island Dr, Alameda, CA, (510) 522-1234

Please note: Fingerprinting is valid for the whole time you are at Nea, and is organization specific (so, you will have to be fingerprinted to volunteer at Nea, even if you did it for another local school or organization).

2. TUBERCULOSIS (TB) RISK ASSESSMENT:
California's TB testing requirement has been changed to allow for the completion of a TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire rather than a skin test. The form must be completed by a health professional within 60 days prior to volunteering. If no risk factors are identified, an examination is not required.

TB skin tests continue to be accepted. A TB skin test can be done through your regular doctor (your insurance might cover the costs) or at AAI Healthcare (1002 Central Ave, 510-521-6078) for $20. Make sure you can return 48 hrs after the test to have the results read. The TB test is valid for 4 years.

3. TRAINING SESSION:
Please contact Jana Chabre to schedule your volunteer training session. The session can be completed while these are in process.

4. VOLUNTEER AGREEMENT:
Read and sign a copy of the Volunteer Agreement. You can pick up a copy from the school office, read it, and sign the last page. This can also be completed during your training session with Jana.

Questions?? Contact Jana Chabre or Nea's PTSA.
