School-Based Health Center
"The first wealth is health."
—Ralph Waldo Emerson
Nea has its own School-Based Health Center in Portable 27!
What: School-Based Health Centers offer FREE and confidential medical care, mental health counseling, health education, and leadership opportunities to Alameda youth. School-Based Health Centers utilize a multidisciplinary approach to healthcare in order to promote the health and well being of youth.
Who: High School students attending any of the public high schools (including charters) in Alameda are eligible for services.
How: Students may call or drop in to the health centers during school hours to make an appointment.
Where: Health Centers are located at ACLC/Nea Community Learning Centers (1900 Third Street, Portable 27) and Alameda and Encinal high schools, and serve all high school students from Alameda public schools.
Why: By offering free medical, mental health, health education and youth development services on school grounds, the Health Centers surmount barriers that can prevent youth from accessing care.
The Health Centers’ focus on prevention and early identification of risk factors aims to reduce barriers to learning and to support families and our community.
