Students are placed into small groups (4-8 students) with parental permission. Students are selected for groups based on need, and referral. While teachers and administration usually make referrals, parents are also welcome to refer their own students to check in with the school counselor. Groups are designed to build skills that a student will need to be successful in the classroom and beyond. Typically groups meet once a week for 30 minutes and run for 6-8 weeks. Most group offerings will focus on building confidence, self-esteem, and friendship skills. Additional topics may include grief, family changes, social skills, and managing emotions .
Please keep in mind that a group setting is not always appropriate for every student. A referral to the counselor is not a guarantee of placement in a group.
If you would like to refer your child to counseling, please fill out the referral form below. Forms should be submitted to the school counselor through the main office, or with your child's teacher.
